Bio
Miro Kuzmanovic (b. 1976) lives and works between Austria and Eastern Europe. He is a self-taught documentary Photographer raised in former Yugoslavia. He took his first photographs at the age of sixteen when the escalation of the civil war and avoiding being drafted into military service forced him to immigrate to Austria.
At the center of his photographic practice, he has been working on topics related to the perception and presentation of images, focusing on truth and memory and how it shapes our sense of reality.
His first book, Signs by the Roadside, self-published in 2021, explores states of former Yugoslavia in a profoundly personal, emotive way, reflecting personal experience as questions of identity, migration, and memory dealing with recent history upon the present.
The book was nominated for the Rencontres d'Arles Book Award 2022.
Part of his works are in the permanent collection of the vorarlberg museum and several private collections.
